Schedule of India’s tour of South Africa out; Know details here

The schedule of India’s tour of South Africa is out. Team India will start the tour with the T20I series comprising three matches which will be followed by the same number of ODI and a two-match test series beginning with the boxing day test at Centurion from December 26 followed by the new year’s test at Cape Town from January 3.

The test series will be a part of the World Test Championship Cycle 2023-25 where every match constitutes 12 points for a win. Other than the test series the T20I series will be very important and all eyeballs would be glued to that format as T20 World Cup will be only a few months away and it would be interesting to see the approach of team India in that series as India T20 series is going through a potential transformation since the T20 world cup last year.

Jay Shah’s Reaction

BCCI secretary Jay Shah said “The Freedom Series is significant not just because it features two excellent Test teams, but also because it honours Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela, two great leaders who shaped our respective nations, and the world around them.

The Boxing Day Test and the New Year Test are amongst the most important fixtures on the international cricket calendar and the schedule has been planned particularly around these marquee dates. India has always received strong support in South Africa, and I am confident that fans will be treated to some enthralling contests with no shortage of intensity,”

CSA’s Reaction

CSA Chairperson Lawson Naidoo reacting to the schedule announcement said “I eagerly await the arrival of the Indian Cricket Team and their passionate fans on our shores. This is an important tour for both teams and I am really pleased that we will have a full tour comprising all three formats of the game.

Both South Africa and India boast of exceptional talent, and we can look forward to exciting cricket and thrilling matches. The tour also allows us to showcase the best of South Africa and we have spread out matches across the nation. We share an excellent rapport with BCCI, and I thank them for their support right throughout.”
