Sam Kerr: Australian striker pulls out of national squad; to be sidelined for friendlies against Canada

In latest football updates, Australian superstar Sam Kerr has decided to withdraw from the national side which was slated to face football superpowers Canada, citing foot injury to be the main reason which has added to her woes. This announcement comes after she scored a blitzkrieg goal against Leicester City, maintaining the perfect start for Chelsea.

Sam Kerr- one of the legends for Australia

Sam Kerr has been one of the biggest names for the Matildas. Often considered to be one of the legendary names in Australian football circuit, Kerr has been wreaking havoc since her teenage days. She has been one of the pivots for Chelsea over the years, and has continued her onslaught this season, after she scored a flashy strike for Blues in their 5-2 victory against Leicester. With this win, Chelsea, contrary to their men’s team, have been brilliant in Women’s Super League, and have maintained their unbeaten streak.

The solitary goal for Kerr against Leicester came after she scored a mind-blowing hattrick against Paris FC in the Women’s Champions League. Following that fixture, Chelsea boss Emma Hayes was heard saying about Kerr that she was playing being 80% fit. But, it was after Leicester City game that Chelsea confirmed about the unavailability of Kerr, which mentioned, “We can today confirm that Sam Kerr will not feature in Australia’s forthcoming international fixtures and will remain with the club for treatment on a foot injury.”

Another injury after World Cup

Kerr has faced a horrific injury when she was forced to the sidelines, missing the Group stage of the tournament. She had injured her calf, which had repercussions within the Matildas squad, as she was irreplaceable owing to her exuberance and brilliant execution of shots.

During this international break, Australia is slated to face Canada over two legs. Their first game is set to be staged at Starlight Stadium in Langford, to be played on the upcoming Saturday, as the second game would take both sides to Vancouver, where BC place would be the center-stage when these two teams lock horns.

Australia would indeed be missing one of their biggest metronomes as Kerr’s exclusion from the squad might prove to be a hardship for the Matildas.
