Rohit Sharma Breaks Record of Most Sixes in ODI World Cup History

In the semi-final clash against New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, India’s captain Rohit Sharma achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first batsman in ODI World Cup history to hit 50 sixes.

This feat was accomplished in his 27th World Cup innings, marked by a six off pacer Trent Boult in the fifth over of the match, surpassing Chris Gayle’s previous record of 49 maximums. The top-five list of six-hitters in the World Cup also includes Glenn Maxwell (43), AB de Villiers (37), and David Warner (37).

In addition to this achievement, Rohit surpassed Gayle by hitting his 27th six in the tournament, establishing a new record for the most sixes in a single edition. Gayle had previously held the record with 26 sixes in 2019. Notably, during an earlier match against Afghanistan in the current tournament, Rohit had already surpassed Gayle’s record for the most sixes in international cricket.

During the semi-final match, Rohit added four more sixes to his tally, bringing his total for the tournament to 28. Following closely behind, with 22 sixes, is Glenn Maxwell, making him the second-most prolific six-hitter in the ongoing World Cup.
