Robert Lewandowski hints at international retirement after Poland’s RO 16 exit

Poland got knocked out of the FIFA World Cup yesterday in the Round of 16 against the defending champions France by a scoreline of 3-1.

They got a penalty at the end of the match which was scored by their captain Robert Lewandowski, but after the match, he gave an interview which was simply shocking for the Polish fans as he hinted about his international retirement.

He said “Physically I’m not afraid of this but we have so many different things outside of football, whether your happiness is still there and what’s going on around so it’s tough to say now. From the sporting side I’m not afraid but there are different things that altogether can decide whether it will be the last one or not. There’s still a long way to go [before the next World Cup] and many factors influence whether I will play. The joy of the game is needed. This will be an important element, even in the near future.”

So these statements are very interesting as he still hasn’t given definitive answer to his future but it is still possible that he might play in Euros 2024 or even the World Cup in 2026.

He is a player who has very well disciplined and at 35 he is still in great shape, it can clearly been seen at Barcelona as the striker is their top scorer this season and that too ahead of the likes of Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres, Raphinha and Ousmane Dembele.

All in all, Robert Lewandowski is a legend for Polish Football as without him they couldn’t reach the level that they are currently on.
