Rinku Singh Does What He Does The Best: Finishes the Game with 3 Consecutive Sixes in a Super Over Thriller in UPT20 League

UPT20 League: When Rinku Singh’s name is mentioned, memories of his five consecutive sixes against Gujarat Titans in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match immediately come to mind. As a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Rinku performed the unthinkable when Yash Dayal was his opponent in the final over of the game. Similarly, while representing Meerut, Rinku smashed three consecutive sixes to help his team win the match in a Super Over decider.

In the UPT20 league encounter between Meerut Mavericks and Kashi Rudras, Rinku Singh ended up becoming the game-winning run for his team. As he faced Shiva Singh, a left-arm spinner, with 17 runs needed off the super over, Rinku hammered a hat-trick of sixes. Rinku failed to score on the first ball, but Meerut was able to cross the finish line on the next three deliveries.

Rinku smashed a six over long off with the second ball of the over. The KKR sensation, who is currently representing India in his first international match, smashed another maximum at deep mid-wicket. Rinku added another six over long off to seal the victory.

Prior to that, both teams scored 181 runs each, and the scores were tied after 20 overs. Rinku had performed poorly during the 20-over-per-side encounter in the previous game, scoring only 15 runs off 22 balls. However, the Meerut series chose to send him out in the Super Over, and it’s safe to say he didn’t let them down.

Rinku, having made his India debut in the T20 format, will also be witnessed wearing the national team’s colours in the Asia Games which will be held later this month.

Meerut Mavericks tied with Kashi Rudras (Meerut Mavericks win Super Over by 2 wickets)

Batting first, Meerut Mavericks posted 181 for 7 in 20 overs. In reply, Kashi Rudras also scored 181 for 7.

For Mavericks, Madhav Kaushik scored the most runs: 87 not out of 52. His innings included as many as 9 boundaries and 4 maximums. Notably, Rinku Singh couldn’t really make a mark for his team while at number 2 in the first innings. However, he managed to live up to his name soon in the same match with the match-winning runs in the super over. Moreover, Purnanak Tyagi and Vaibhav Chaudhary scalped two wickets each to restrict the Rudras to 181.

While for Kashi Rudras, captain Karan Sharma and Shivam Bansal both scored a decent half-century but couldn’t win the match for their team. Nonetheless, Ankur Malik and Md. Sharim’s hard-hitting is worth mentioning as both of them scored 28 of 14 and 16 of 4 respectively in an effort to take their team past the winning line, however, they failed eventually. Lastly, Shiva Singh picked up 2 in his 4-over bowling quota.
