Reims 0-3 PSG: Kylian Mbappe hattrick propels defending champions to go top of the table

Ligue 1 defending champions are back at their best as they emerged victorious against Reims in an away clash, with their superstar Kylian Mbappe scoring a flashy hattrick to increase his humongous goal tally. Mbappe’s clinical outing helped PSG surpass Nice by one point, making the former World Champion leading scorer of the French league.

PSG defeats Reims 3-0

Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain might have got their groove back just before going off for the International break. Although they had an unexpected slump in their midweek fixture against AC Milan where they were defeated by the Italian side, they made an excellent comeback, which resonates with their playstyle efficiency. Kylian Mbappe was once again the hero of the game, scoring a classy hattrick, outclassing their opponents to propel at the top of Ligue 1 table, one point ahead of OGC Nice. He has been brilliant throughout the season, with his exuberance and goal scoring prowess getting the edge in every game. Although being silent in the first few games due to his transfer conundrum, he is back to his best right when he was most required, in the middle of the season.

Started early in the game

Mbappe did start his goal scoring run early in the game, scoring on the third minute. Former Barcelona stalwart Ousmane Dembele was instrumental in setting up the attack, when he darted along the flanks, before placing an impeccable shot towards far post. Mbappe showed his goal scoring ability to arrive in the space at right time, nonchalantly firing past Reims keeper with his side-footed volley, making the score line in favor of visitors 0-1. He increased his goal tally to 13 in the league, with more to come in the next few minutes.

Although the score would have been different had it not been for Reims custodian Diouf, who had made some big saves to keep his side within the game. He was spearheading the defense, thus adjusting the line and watching the ball conspicuously to make some saves.

Continues in the second half as well

With the score at 0-1 in favor of the visitors PSG, the match was poised for a climactic finish, as Reims was also looking to fire some shots past Donnarumma, with the big Italian coming clutch to save them from conceding. It was then on the 59th minute, Mbappe decided to go for the kill once again, with a superb team effort, involving a singe touch from every player. Underperforming Dembele found his groove back in the game, as he found Carlos Soler on the run. Reims far-stretched defense left Mbappe on a solitary position on the far post, as he simply tapped in past Diouf to make the score line 2-0 in favor of defending champions. PSG’s sublime play was at work once again, helping them to take an almost unassailable lead.

A hattrick at the end

Just when Reims had thought that PSG might have completed their onslaught, Luis Enrique’s men decided to inflict more pain on the home team. Kylian Mbappe was at it again, scoring his 16th career hattrick, and etching his name in the history books. Barcola was responsible for the goal as recently called up young kid in the French National team Warren Zaire-Emery showed his class, playing a cheeky one-two with each other. Barcola cut back the ball past to Mbappe whose first time shot skirmished the top corner, helping PSG seal a vital three points on the trot, with Mbappe increasing his tally to 15 goals in this season, 13 in the league and two in UEFA Champions League.
