RCB part ways with Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar ahead of IPL 2024

The franchisee decided not to renew the contract of the coach and Team’s Director of cricket after RCB failed to qualify for the playoffs

IPL 2023 ended just a few months back and the franchisees have already started the preparation for IPL 2024 with the signing of new coaches and overhauling the coaching setup. As reported previously LSG has appointed former Australian head coach Justin Langer as the head coach of the team for the next season. Now various media outlets reported that Royal Challengers Bangalore have not renewed the contract of Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar after the team’s league stage exit in IPL 2023.

The Performance

The duo of Bangar a former Indian batting coach and Hesson have enjoyed a considerable amount of success with the franchisee since they joined the team in 2021. Under their leadership, the team reached the playoffs in two back-to-back seasons and rectified their weaknesses in the process. One of those was the death bowling issues of RCB because of which they lost a lot of matches from 2018 to 2020. Reacting to the development a source told TOI “The contracts of both Hesson and Bangar have not been renewed. The current contract runs till December 31, but normally, if the coaches are to be retained, their contracts are renewed at this time of the year.”

The Reaction

The news came as a surprise for many as the team was performing consistently for the last few seasons and as is the old saying why repair something which is not broken this should have been the case with RCB but as things stand the now renewal of the contract means that the team will go in with a new look coaching setup with captain Faf at the helm of team’s affair.

What Next

Among all the news floating around the most important one is that there has been no official word from the franchisee confirming the news. But it is almost certain that the team will have a new coach in IPL 2024 and one of the frontrunners for the role is Ravi Shastri given his comradery with Virat Kohli a senior member of the team
