Ravindra Jadeja prioritizes fitness ahead of Saurashtra vs Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy clash

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will captain Saurashtra against Tamil Nadu in the 7th round of the ongoing Ranji Trophy at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium. The game is scheduled to start on January 24. This will provide Jadeja his much needed match practice before the commencement of the all- important Border Gavaskar trophy.

This will mark Jadeja’s return to competitive cricket after almost six months as he had to undergo knee surgery which the all-rounder had sustained during the middle of Asia Cup 2022. This was a body blow for the Indians as the team badly missed the services of the star all-rounder at the Asia Cup and the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

As Jadeja is set to get back onto the field, this will also mark the left-hander’s comeback into his state side after four years as he last played for Saurashtra back in 2018. This will also be the first time when he will captain Saurashtra for the first time in first class level.

Jadeja aims to be match fit

It is important to note that other Saurashtra players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Jaydev Unadkat have been rested for this round keeping the upcoming Border-Gavaskar trophy in mind.

However, Ravindra Jadeja was asked to play at least one first class match and prove his fitness before the he joins the Indian squad before the first test in Nagpur from February 9.

“Being back on the field makes me feel fantastic and very ecstatic. Hopefully, both as a team and as an individual, it will work out well.

You see, my top priority is to be completely fit when I enter the field. I’ll focus more on my abilities, whether it’s batting or bowling, until I’m fully fit.  But for the moment my top priority is getting fit”.

Glance over Jadeja’s recent pictures from practice

The star all-rounder has worked really hard at the NCA to get back to what he does best. He was seen doing the extra yards with  NCA strength and condition coach Sudarsan VP and later had session at the nets where he batted and bowled.

This shows how eager Jadeja is to roar again in the field of cricket and provide his valuable contributions in all three departments for team India.
