The bowler had criticized Cricket Australia’s decision to not play the ODI series against Afghanistan in January this year. Cricket Australia had refused to play the scheduled ODI series against Afghanistan on human rights grounds. “Following extensive consultation with relevant stakeholders, including the Australian Government, Cricket Australia has decided that it is unable to proceed at this time with the upcoming ICC Super League three-match Men’s ODI series between Australia and Afghanistan scheduled for the UAE in March 2023,” the CA statement said. “

The Reason

This decision follows the announcement by the Taliban of further restrictions on women’s and girls’ education and employment opportunities and their ability to access parks and gyms. “CA is committed to supporting growing the game for women and men around the world, including in Afghanistan, and will continue to engage with the Afghanistan Cricket Board in anticipation of improved conditions for women and girls in the country. “We thank the Australian Government for its support on this matter.”

This or That

Other than Rashid players like Mujeeb, Noor Ahmad, and Izharulhaq Naveed who had also previously criticized CA have also registered themselves for the player draft. The upcoming season of BBL will be colliding with the second edition of ILT20 and few players will leave early so teams might be hesitant to sign Rashid who will be playing for MI emirates in ILT20. Currently, Rashid is enjoying a good time on the field of cricket after winning the recently concluded MLC with MI New York and has continued the good form in the ongoing series against Pakistan. Afghanistan fans would want him to replicate his current performances in the Asia Cup as well.
