Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly dismissed Ramiz Raja from the Chairman position. The news came after the historic yet horrific Test series clean sweep against England. Moreover, if the reports are to be believed, Pakistani journalist and businessman Najam Sethi will take over the role.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sherif, who is also the patron of the Board, cleared the appointment of Sethi as the new chairman of the PCB, according to reports. Under the Board constitution, the Prime Minister nominates candidates for the post of chairman and one of them is then elected by the board of governors.
Pakistan to remove Ramiz Raja as chairman of PCB
Speculation was rife over the last few days that a lobby, led by former disgruntled members of the Board, managed to launch a campaign to have Raja removed as PCB chairman, PTI reported. “This lobby has claimed that something has been going on behind the scenes and the law ministry has sent a summary to the Prime Minister, who is the patron of the Board, for a change in guard in the PCB,” it added.
Ramiz Raja who had played 57 Tests and 198 ODIs between 1984 and 1997, succeeded Ehsan Mani. Raja recently came into the limelight after he feuded with BCCI. Jay Shah, the secretary of the world’s biggest cricket board, said that India won’t be traveling to Pakistan for the next year’s Asia Cup. Raja in reply warned BCCI that the Pakistan Cricket Team will boycott traveling to India for the upcoming World Cup if India pulls out of Asia Cup which is scheduled to be held in Pakistan.
