Pulisic inspires USA to beat Mexico in CONCACAF Nations League Semi-final

Christian Pulisic inspires USA to beat Mexico as they reach the CONCACAF Nations League Final. They will face Canada in the final.

The United States thrashed Mexico 3-0 in a hotly contested affair in Las Vegas. USA were on front foot from the first whistle, but Mexico were unable to find any momentum in the match.

Christian Pulisic made his first start since April 15 and scored for the USA in the 37th minute of the match and doubled the lead after nine minutes. He has now scored 25 goals in 59 International caps, including four against Mexico.

USA stretch their unbeaten run after thrashing Mexico

Ricardo Pepi scored in the 79th minute after replacing Folarin Balogun. With this win, the Americans stretched their unbeaten run to six-games against El Tri, matching their longest record from 2011-15.

United States went ahead at the 37th-minute mark when Gio Reyna took the ball off Montes and gave it forward off Jorge Sánchez.

Pulisic made a run behind the defenders, took a few touches and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Ochoa from the edge of the 6-yard box.

Weston McKennie started the move for the second goal. A long pass down a flank to Weah, who found Pulisic. The forward got behind Reyes and Sanchez to score with his left foot from 6 yards out.

Pepi scored the third goal, and his seventh International goal, after receiving a pass from Dest, he took a touch and rounded off Ochoa. He slotted home USA’s third on the night, driving the final nail in the Mexican coffin.

Weston McKennie and Sergiño Dest were sent off by Ivan Barton, along with Mexicans Cesar Montes and Gerardo Arteaga in second-half.

Mexico fans chant gay slur at USA

The play was halted in the 90th minute because of homophobic chants from Mexican fans. However, the action was resumed, and 12 minutes of stoppage time was signalled. However, resumed chants caused Barton to end the match in the eighth minute added minute.

FIFA fined Mexico 100,000 Swiss francs ($108,000) in January for anti-gay chants by fans at two games.

McKennie and Dest are suspended for the final against Canada. Luca de la Torre and Joe Scally are the possible replacements.
