Pujara rejected, Jaiswal, Ruturaj Recieve Maiden Calls-ups as India name Test, ODI squads for West Indies tour

The teams for India’s two-match Test and three-match ODI tour against the West Indies in July and August have been announced.

The World Test Championship 2023–25 squads for both India and West Indies will be unveiled during the Test series. India will need to win the ODI series in order to step up their preparations for the Cricket World Cup later in the year.

India has made some significant decisions by bringing in some new faces for the Test setup after the heartbreak of losing the World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval. The team has added Yashaswi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad, two uncapped batters, in place of veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara.

In the IPL, Jaiswal and Gaikwad, who opened the batting for the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, respectively, had outstanding seasons. Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav aren’t in the team, but pacers Mukesh Kumar and Navdeep Saini are. In addition, Ajinkya Rahane has been selected the team’s vice-captain, with Rohit Sharma remaining the captain. Jasprit Bumrah continues to be excluded because he has not fully recovered from his back injury.

Many of the regulars are also included in the ODI team, while Gaikwad is included in the white ball setup as well. Sanju Samsom has also been recalled, with KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant out due to injuries.

Mukesh Kumar set to join the national team in the likes of Jaydev Unadkat and Mohammed Siraj

In the limited-overs squad, Mukesh Kumar is once again picked in the pace department along with Jaydev Unadkat and Mohammed Siraj. The fast bowling division is finished by Umran Malik. Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel are the four alternatives for spin bowling that India has named in the ODI team.

Hardik Pandya has been selected as Rohit Sharma’s assistant in the ODI team.

From July 12 in Dominica through July 24 in Trinidad, the Test series will take place. The three-match ODI series will proceed in the same manner and be contested from July 27 to August 1.
