Presnel Kimpembe signs new contract with PSG until 2026

French defender Presnel Kimpembe signs new contract with PSG to extend his stay at Parc des Princes until June 2026.

The 28-year-old has not made a single appearance under new manager Luis Enrique this season after he suffered a ruptured achilles tendon.

“I’m delighted to be continuing my story with the club I love. I would like to thank Paris Saint-Germain, the President, and the fans for their renewed faith. I hope to wear these colours again as soon as possible,” Kimpembe said after signing his new contract.

Kimpembe joined PSG’s youth system back in 2005 and made his official debut just after turning 19. He then came on as a substitute in a 3-1 win over Lens in October 2014. He has made 257 appearances for PSG till now, scoring four and assisting two.

Over the past eight years the Frenchman has blossomed into a key figure for the Ligue 1 champions. Kimpembe has also played with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva, Verratti and Neymar Jr and boasts a lot of experience despite being just 28.

The centre-back was also part of France’s 2018 World Cup-winning squad and 2021 Nations League triumph. Moreover, he has won a total of 23 trophies at the Parc des Princes, including seven top-flight titles, as well as being named in the 2020/21 Ligue 1 Team of the Year.

However, Kimpembe has not played competitive football since February this year after suffering a injury. PSG confirmed in a statement that he “is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days, in order to return to competition as quickly as possible”.

Last season, he played just 15 games due to fitness problems and has been sidelined since PSG’s 3-0 win over Marseille in February.

With Kimpembe our, Enrique usually deploys Marquinhos, Danilo Pereira and summer signing Milan Skriniar in a three-man backline. PSG defeated Metz 3-1 on Wednesday after Kylian Mbappe scored a brace and Vitinha added the third goal.

Nevertheless, the Frenchman’s absence is felt in defence, but he will try to get back on the pitch as son as possible.
