Premier League block Chelsea’s new shirt sponsorship deal with Paramount Plus

Premier League block Chelsea’s new shirt sponsorship deal with Paramount Plus, as they fear it would create complications with the league’s broadcasting partners.

The Premier League fears that the American streaming service, which doesn’t broadcast games in the United Kingdom, would create complications with Sky Sports and BT Sport.

The Blues were confident of replacing the current sponsorship with Three after scrapping their £40m-a-year contract.

However, Chelsea have now turned their attention to Casino Stake.com. They have started negotiations with Stake despite the Premier League announcing a ban on gambling sponsorship in front of jerseys.

German insurer Allianz is also reportedly offering Chelsea a £20m-a-year deal.

The rule will only be active from the start of the 2026/27 season. This would allow Chelsea to proceed with their one-year deal with Stake.

If Chelsea agrees to a deal with Stake, it would have to be a short deal as the ban comes into effect in two years. Stake also sponsors Premier League clubs, Everton and Watford.

However, betting companies will be allowed to sponsor sleeves and appear on advertising boards in the stadium.

Chelsea fans reacted angrily on social media after the deal with Paramount Plus was blocked. Many accused the Premier League of playing politics.

The Blues summer overhaul is underway after a disappointing season. Plenty of superstars will leave the Stamford Bridge this summer.

N’Golo Kante has already moved to Al-Ittihad, whereas Kalidou Koulibaly, Hakim Ziyech and Eduard Mendy are also looking to move to Saudi Arabia.
