Portugal beat Luxembourg 9-0 to record their biggest win ever and extend a perfect start to their Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Furthermore, despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence, Portugal managed to produce a dominant display at Estadio Algarve. Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes stole the show as he recorded a hat-trick of assists before scoring a late goal.
Portugal were 4-0 up at half-time with two goals apiece from Goncalo Inacio and Goncalo Ramos. Liverpool’s Diogo Jota made it 5-0, Ricardo Horta got a sixth, and Jota added a seventh.
Fernandes added the eighth goal, and new Barcelona signing Joao Felix scored the last goal to record a historic win over Luxembourg.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner missed a great chance to score goals against Luxembourg, as he has scored the most goals against them. However, the Al Nassr forward was suspended due to the accumulation of yellow cards in earlier Group J games.
After this big win Portugal have won all six games of their Euro 2024 Group J qualifying matches since Roberto Martinez became head coach in January.
The Spaniard replaced Fernando Santos, who resigned after Portugal’s quarter-final defeat by Morocco at the World Cup in Qatar. Moreover, Martinez’s side has scored 24 goals in six games without conceding a single goal.
Furthermore, they will qualify for next summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany if they beat Slovakia on October 13th and if third-placed Luxembourg fail to win away at Iceland.
