Pep Guardiola provides ‘big update’ on Kevin De Bruyne’s recovery

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided a major update on Kevin De Bruyne’s recovery from his hamstring injury.

The Belgian international was included in Manchester City’s FIFA Club World Cup squad earlier this week as they travel to Saudi Arabia to compete in the tournament for the first time.

De Bruyne has not featured for City since their opening Premier League game against Burnley, where he suffered a hamstring injury in the second half.

Does Manchester City miss Kevin De Bruyne’s presence?

Moreover, he suffered the same injury against Inter in the Champions League final in June. Nevertheless, he underwent surgery after picking up the injury again against Burnley.

The absence of De Bruyne is also visible on the pitch as City now find themselves six points off leaders Arsenal. The Treble winners are winless in their last four Premier League matches, with three draws and one defeat.

However, Guardiola will look to get back to winning ways as they face newly promoted Luton Town at the Kenilworth Road this weekend.

Guardiola reveals when De Bruyne will return

At the moment, De Bruyne looks unlikely to feature in any game before the new year, but Guardiola has provided an update regarding his recovery.

“[De Bruyne] started to run on the pitch but hasn’t trained once with us. Maybe [the FIFA Club World Cup] will be a little bit early, but I don’t know.

“Kevin [De Bruyne] will be back when he is, we don’t rush him, and when he’s back, we will welcome him with open arms.”

De Bruyne will eye a return after the new year and would also boost City’s chances of winning the Premier League and the Champions League again. He is also expected to feature for Belgium in the upcoming European Championship in Germany.
