Pakistan suffers worst-ever defeat in Women’s T20 World Cup history
Women’s T20 World Cup: England registered a mega performance that saw them seal a 114-run win over Pakistan. England won the toss and opted to bat first in their final league stage game of the tournament. England powered to register a huge score of 213 after the fifties from Nat Scriver and Wyatt. In reply, Pakistan faltered early and was ultimately dismissed for just 99 runs.
Consequently, Pakistan on Tuesday suffered the worst-ever defeat in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Before this, Thailand had suffered the previous worst-ever defeat in the Women’s T20 World Cup after losing by 113 runs against South Africa in 2020.
T20 World Cup: Fifties from Danielle Wyatt & Nat Sciver Demolish Pakistan
England smashed the highest score in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup and won by the biggest margin ever seen at the tournament, hammering Pakistan by 114 runs in Cape Town. The England batters warmed up for the knockout stages with a thrilling display, smashing Pakistan’s attack to all corners of Newlands as they reached 213/5 in their 20 overs.
And the reply never really got going as Pakistan ended their tournament in disappointing fashion, managing to avoid being bowled out, but finishing on 99/9.
England had rung a change to their playing XI, leaving out Lauren Bell for Freya Davies to set up a possible showdown between Davies and under-pressure Katherine Sciver-Brunt for semi-final selection.
But it was the veteran Sciver-Brunt who impressed of the two, striking with just her second ball to remove opener Sadaf Shamas for a duck, and finishing with excellent figures of 2/14 from her four overs.
‘I just said to myself to be positive’: Danni Wyatt
England opener Danni Wyatt to Sky Sports: “I think that was a T20 World Cup record score. We want to smash records, play positive cricket and take it down from ball one.
“I’ve always try to go hard from ball one anyway but everyone is getting on board. Going out there, being brave and taking it on. That’s what T20 us all about.
“I never normally sweep but found it quite easy today. I just tried not to think too much. You can get a bit stressed out at World Cups so I just said to myself to be positive.”
