Once a Captain, Always a Captain: Steve Smith’s Great captaincy display Garners a ton of Appreciation

Under Steve Smith’s captaincy Australian Cricket Team registered a resounding victory over India in the 3rd Test Match. The mighty Aussies won the match by 9 wickets and made a statement that they are not done yet. Skipper Steve Smith marshaled his troops and was spot on with his field placings. Smith stood behind his bowlers & gave long spells to spinners which proved to be effective.

The Men in Blue have got a reality check and it won’t be wrong to say that their ultra-attacking approach back-fired on a spicy wicket. Head Coach Rahul Dravid & Skipper Rohit Sharma would be aware of the fact that they have to win the 4th Test match to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC 2021-23) final.

Steve Smith’s captaincy puts the Aussies back in action

Australia were 2-0 down after having conceded the Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeats in the first and second Tests in Nagpur and Delhi, respectively. They were dealt with a big blow ahead of the 3rd Test as captain Pat Cummins flew home to be with his ailing mother and it was confirmed he wouldn’t be available for the outing in Indore.

Steve Smith, who had led Australia in one of the most hard-fought series in 2017, was named as the stand-in captain for the 3rd Test. Smith said it was a great achievement to bounce back from the first two Tests and seal a win in Indore.

Steve Smith’s captaincy display Garners a ton of Appreciation

In the words of India veteran Sanjay Manjrekar, Smith displayed great captaincy when he introduced Mitchell Starc to target Iyer, when he was going after the spinners.

“Great captaincy too from Australia’s Steve Smith in the way he got Starc into the attack. They realised Iyer is so good against spin, let’s try him against pace,” said Manjrekar.

Moreover, another Indian star player Harbhajan Singh was having an interaction with Star Sports and was asked about Steven Smith.

“They played fantastic cricket throughout this Test match. Australia actually played cricket like Australia. It didn’t look like they had lost two matches previously. I feel the captain changed and their entire bad situation changed.” said Harbhajan Singh.
