ODI World Cup: Pakistan Cricket Board to Send a Psychologist with Team To Help Players Cope With Pressure – Reports
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering sending a psychologist to India with the team in advance of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 to help the players deal with the pressures of the high-profile competition.
A final choice in this matter won’t be made, though, until PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf meets with skipper Babar Azam.
In the current season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), Azam is a player for Colombo Strikers.
According to a PCB official, Zaka is a firm believer that having a psychologist with the players will benefit them, particularly when they are not performing well or are under external pressure from a tour of India.
Being that Pakistan is visiting India for the first time since 2016, he claimed that having a psychologist present is essential.
According to the source, when Zaka Ashraf was the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), he hired renowned psychologist Maqbool Babri to work with the players and accompanied them on a trip to India in 2012–2013.
Before departing for India for the 2011 World Cup, the official claimed that the Pakistani players met with a sports psychologist.
At the 2023 World Cup, Pakistan will play games in Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Ahmedabad.
