Northamptonshire coach calls Prithvi Shaw ‘A Superstar’ after he scores yet another ton in county cricket

Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw added another century to his county cricket tally after 244-run record on Sunday in a One-Day Cup 2023 encounter against Durham in Chester-le-Street.

The Northamptonshire opener reached his century off 68 deliveries and put his team’s six-wicket victory in a 199-run chase by hitting a four and two sixes off three consecutive deliveries to end the game in style.

Shaw finished unbeaten on 125 from 76 balls, including 15 fours and 7 sixes. In a 24-run 21st over that ultimately ended the game, he pounded leg-spinner Scott Borthwick with two sixes and three fours off successive deliveries.

The 23-year-old had previously this week defeated Somerset with a double-hundred. His ferocious innings of 244 from 153 broke numerous List A cricket records, including the record for the highest individual score in the 50-over competition’s history.

The batter is the leading run-scorer in the One day cup with 429 runs in four innings at an average of 143.00 and a stroke rate of above 152, with two centuries.

Another Indian player, the Test middle-order veteran Cheteshwar Pujara is in the second position, with 329 runs at an average of 109.66 and a stroke rate of 88.44 with two centuries and a fifty and the best score of 117*. He is representing Sussex.

Pujara’s List-A record is also impressive as he stands at 5583 runs in 122 matches and 120 innings at an average of 58.15, with 16 centuries and 33 fifties and a best score of 174.

Northamptonshire County Cricket Club’s coach John Sadler said, “Prithvi Shaw is a superstar. His skill speaks for itself,” after Shaw puts on another magnificent show.

Sadler further said, “he’s up there with the best in terms of ball striking. He has been a star in the dressing room, he’s humble”.
