Neymar’s History Of Injuries May Affect His Career and Club As PSG Star Missing Crucial Games For Consecutive Seasons

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has been ruled out for the rest of the season as the Brazil international is set to undergo surgery to repair ankle ligaments that will keep him out for at least three months, the Ligue 1 club confirmed on Monday.

The former Barcelona man suffered an ankle injury on 19th Feb against LOSC Lille in a Ligue 1 match. Neymar managed an assist and a goal before he was stretchered off in tears in the crazy 4-3 win over LOSC at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.

The club said that the Brazilian superstar has been experiencing several episodes of instability in his right ankle in recent years and the medical team has suggested for an ankle operation to avoid further risk in the near future. Neymar took to Instagram to send a message regarding his injury, saying that he’ll be back stronger.

According To Paris Saint Germain.

PSG said in a statement that “Neymar Jr. has had several episodes of instability in his right ankle in recent years. Following his last sprain contracted on February 20, the medical staff recommended a ligament repair operation to avoid a major risk of recurrence. All the experts consulted have confirmed this necessity. A delay of three to four months is expected before his return to training.”

PSG further said that Neymar would undergo the surgery in Doha, Qatar. The club is top of the league with an eight-point lead over second-placed Marseille. They face Bayern Munich on Wednesday in the Champions League round-of-16 second leg, where they trail 1-0.

Neymar’s History Of Injuries

It’s not the first time that Neymar has missed important games with PSG. Neymar has been sidelined for spells with foot, groin, rib, and ankle injuries since joining the club for a record $269m from Barcelona in 2017.

In 2018, Neymar suffered a foot injury before an important Champions League match against Real Madrid. PSG was eliminated by the Spanish club in the last 16. A year later, he missed the last 16 against Manchester United. Neymar was injured again in 2021, this time in his left adductor, and was out when PSG faced Barcelona.

How Will Neymar’s Absence Affect PSG

PSG paid a world-record fee to sign Neymar in 2017 with an ambition to win the Champions League but he has missed important games for the club during the crucial ending phases of the season.

PSG are currently at the top of the league with an eight-point lead over second-placed Olympique de Marseille.

However, they will be facing Bayern Munich in the second leg of R16 which Bayern already lead by 1 goal. Neymar’s absence will shoulder the responsibility on Messi and Mbappe to take the club to the next round.

Not only that, with rumors of Premier League teams lining up to sign him, Neymar might have played his last game for Paris Saint Germain, as per SportsBible. but are believed to be content about offloading him for somewhere between £70 and £80 million.
