Neymar leaves Brazil match in tears after suffering knee injury against Uruguay

Neymar leaves Brazil match in tears after suffering a knee injury in Brazil’s 2-0 loss to Uruguay at the World Cup qualifiers.

In the 44th minute, Neymar was tackled to the ground by Uruguay’s Nicolas de la Cruz. The Brazilian was surrounded by players from both teams as he held his left knee.

He left the field on a stretcher with his hands on his face and was replaced by Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison.

Brazil’s medical team had no update on the injury at half-time. But, team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said after the game that Neymar had already undergone tests and that more information would be given on Wednesday.

Neymar leaves Brazil match in tears with a ‘severe’ knee injury

“These 24 hours will be important to see how the knee will respond, how will be the swelling,” Lasmar said. “Imaging tests that will define a definitive diagnosis. It’s too early to say [if it’s a ligament injury]. Let’s wait for the exams calmly, evaluate calmly, and as soon as we have a definition we will let you know.”

Neymar did not speak to reporters in Montevideo. After leaving the stadium, he posted on Instagram that “God knows about all things.”

“All the honor and all the glory will always be yours, my Lord. No matter what, I have faith,” he said in the post.

Darwin Nunez opened the scoring for Uruguay, and Nicolas de la Cruz scored the second goal to beat Brazil. Moreover, this was Uruguay’s first win over Brazil in 22 years. Brazil have dropped points for the second time in a row and also suffered their first loss in 37 matches in World Cup qualifiers.

Neymar’s participation against Mumbai City FC in doubt

Neymar recently joined Suadi Pro League club Al Hilal in the summer from PSG and was set to play in India against Mumbai City FC in a group-stage ACL tie on November 6. Furthermore, Mumbai City FC even booked a much larger DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai to cater the fans.

Nevertheless, the Indian fans who were crazy to see Neymar in Mumbai will have to hope that his injury is not that serious. Moreover, his absence will be felt by both Brazil and Al Hilal.
