Newcastle United vs PSG: Match predictions, team news, probable line-ups, predicted result, venue, date, time, where to watch

Newcastle United and PSG are gearing up for a high-intensity clash in the UEFA Champions League as the European elite competition returns to St. James Park after a hiatus of 20 years. The French giants will be looking to continue their winning streak in the tournament, after a 2-0 victory against Dortmund in the last game, as Newcastle would be bent on snatching their first victory after a tedious 0-0 stalemate against AC Milan.

A mouth-watering clash on the cards

Newcastle United has been one of the top surprises of Premier League last season. With a third place finish in the League table ahead of heavyweights like Manchester United and Liverpool, they had earned a well-deserved Champions League spot, after a sabbatical of twenty years. Owing to the might of Joelinton, Alexander Isak and Nick Pope, coupled with the strict vigil of Eddie Howe, the Magpies have been one of the top contenders of a trophy this season. But, their destiny holds something else, as they have been placed in the group of death, which includes French heavyweights PSG, Italian giants AC Milan and German runners-up from last season, Borussia Dortmund.

In their first match against AC Mila, two weeks ago, all eyes were glued to San Siro as one of Milan’s former favorite boys, Sandro Tonali, who switched his allegiance to Newcastle paid a visit to the Italian fronts. And as expected, Newcastle was potent enough to hold the fort against a flurry of AC Milan attacks, with their custodian Nick Pope adjudged the man of the match, owing to his heroic efforts under the goal. AC Milan had more than 20 shots but all of them were thwarted by Pope’s meteoric efforts. Tomorrow, when Newcastle hosts PSG at their home ground, with the home ground behind their back, it would indeed be a proud night for the Magpies’ veterans, as they have waited for this day since two decades. Last night, they even put up a spectacular light show on display, embodying their return to European elite, which read, “We’re Back”.

For PSG, although they are considered to be the frontrunners and huge title contenders for the Champions League, they have an unwanted history of faltering in the knockout stages of the tournament. To strengthen their attack and chances of winning a Champions League title, they have formerly roped in legendary Argentine World Cup winner Lionel Messi, but have failed to win the tournament over past few seasons. With Messi and Mbappe gone this season, PSG is looking to build upon their squad with the addition of former FC Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele and Portugal’s World Cup hattrick hero Goncalo Ramos bolstering their attack.

In the last game against Borussia, “Les Parisiens” were on their averagely better state, as they went on to defeat the Germans 2-0, owing to a spot-kick from Kylian Mbappe and a miraculous strike from Moroccan superstar Achraf Hakimi. They will be travelling to England with a full squad as they would love to continue their winning streak at the Competition, thus strengthening their hopes of a Round of 16 qualification.

Newcastle United vs PSG: team news

Both teams would look to field their strongest eleven but injury blows have prevented them from fielding their best side. Newcastle United was dealt with a harsh blow of the season when they came to know that their star winger Harvey Barnes, who had joined the Magpies this summer, would be sidelined for the next two months, as he would not be seen taking the field till November. Sven Botman would also be on the sidelines. Joe Willock would also be a potential doubt for Eddie Howe’s starting eleven as the former Arsenal star is nursing a hamstring injury, and is expected to be joined by Joelinton, who is also facing a similar issue with the hamstring.

As things stand for PSG, the Ligue 1 defending champions would be eager to make a mark in England under the guidance of former Spain and Barcelona coach Luis Enrique. They would be without several of their star players for their trip to Tyneside, as former Real Madrid front man Marco Asensio remains out of contention due to a nursing foot injury. Nuno Mendes has also been ruled out till the starting of 2024, as Sergio Rico is unlikely to make Enrique’s squad.

Enrique has recently switched to 3-4-3 formation, and it might be possible that we are treated with one more game with this formation.
