Newcastle United thrash Sheffield United 8-0 to set a new Premier League record

Newcastle United thrash Sheffield United 8-0 to mark their biggest-ever away win. Furthermore, this ruthless victory also featured eight different goal-scorers and left Sheffield United in agony.

The Magpies scored the first goal in the 21st minute through Sean Longstaff, then Dan Burn and Sven Botman added another two before the half-hour mark.

The goals didn’t stop after the break, as Callum Wilson netted the fourth goal. Anthony Gordon curled one in from outside the penalty box to register his team’s fifth of the night.

Miguel Almiron and Bruno Guimaraes scored the sixth and seventh goals, with Alexander Isak finishing off the onslaught with the eighth strike in the 87th minute.

Sheffield United suffer their worst loss since 1933

The 8-0 defeat against Newcastle United now marks Sheffield United’s worst loss ever since 1933, 90 years ago. The Magpies were unstoppable and humiliated the Blades at Bramall Lane on Sunday.

The last time they suffered a humiliating defeat was a 10-3 loss to Middlesbrough in November 1933. Moreover, the Magpies were also showing no signs of tiredness even after their 0-0 draw against AC Milan in midweek.

Newcastle have scored seven or more goals in the English top flight three times. They beat Sheffield Wednesday with the same margin back in 1999. Furthermore, they defeated Swindon Town and Tottenham Hotspur with a scoreline of 7-1 in 1994 and 1996 respectively.

Kieran Tripper now becomes the second player after Jason Puncheon to assist three-headed goals in a single Premier League game.
