One of the most thrilling group stages in the history of the World Cup is finally ended and now the pressure would be skyrocketing on the qualified teams as the Round of 16 matches begins today. The opening encounter would be commenced by Louis Van Gaal’s side as they’ll be facing the USA. The Netherlands did not qualify in the 2018 Cup but this time out they are performing very well as they topped their group and are one of the three teams who are still unbeaten in this tournament. Hence, they would be looking to continue on that streak and since Van Gaal has been appointed as the Holland coach, his team still hasn’t lost a match under him.

Van Gaal also managed his nation back in the 2014 competition and in Brazil, they performed extremely well as they finished 3rd, cause they were knocked out in the semi-finals on penalties against Argentina. So now they’ll be looking to avenge that and go on to win the trophy, but in the last 16 USA would be coming in their way who qualified on the last matchday, courtesy of a Christian Pulisic goal. The Americans would be looking to break their streak as, since 2002, they haven’t beaten a European team in the World Cup and today in the Round of 16 is the perfect opportunity to do so. All in all, the knockout stages begin today and one cannot miss these matches.
