Nasser Hussain backs Anderson to make a strong comeback in the series against India

‘Jimmy’s got a very good record against Ind and you need a balanced attack. You need that experience for younger players to come in,’ Nasser Hussain said.

James Anderson had a quiet Ashes series as the fast bowler was unable to pick up wickets at regular intervals. As a result, he was dropped from the third match at Headingly. He did make a comeback in the team for the fourth test but could not find his rhythm. Anderson’s constant failure has prompted several questions for England’s management with Stuart Broad having been retired from the longest formant and the team set to tour India in early 2024 the biggest question Infront of the captain and coach is that should Anderson be picked for India’s tour next year. On the other hand, Anderson has expressed his desire to continue playing as he feels that he still has a lot to offer in the longest format

What did they say?

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has backed James Anderson to make a strong comeback. In Hussain’s words, “Jimmy’s got a very good record against Indi and you need a balanced attack. You need that experience for younger players to come in. Listen, Jimmy’s had a bad or an average couple of months, but you are a fool if you’re writing off Jimmy Anderson. I spoke to him in an interview yesterday and he was like, the hunger is still there,” he said in an episode of the ICC review. “He’s already thinking about how to get back to his best. He’s already thinking about going back in the nets and working hard at his game and that’s a good sign for me that he’s still got that hunger. He’s, what, 10 wickets away from 700, and that will keep him going for a while yet,” he added.

A man with experience

With Anderson’s long-time bowling partner Stuart Broad having retired from test cricket, Anderson remains one of the most experienced bowler in the team and his experience will be crucial in India. Nasser Hussain said “I think especially with Broad going, I would like that experience (in India). Chris Woakes has stated that he’s not that keen anymore on playing away from home and his record’s not great away from home. We’ll see, he (Woakes) might change his mind. There’s been a lot of mind changes recently. But if you don’t have Woakes and you don’t have Broad, you will need that experience of someone like Jimmy Anderson
