Mohun Bagan 2-0 Odisha: Petratos, Boumous strike to take Mariners to ISL Semifinal

ATK Mohun Bagan, the three time champions of the Indian Super League and this season’s one of the most expected title contenders, script a memorable victory over neighboring rivals Odisha FC, edging them past by a margin of two goals.

A goal in each half, scored by the formidable duo of Hugo Boumos and Dimitrios Petratos, ensured a comfortable victory over their opponents. It will be facing Hyderabad FC in the semifinals, a team which is very difficult to beat this time, and finished in the second spot after the group stage.

Goalkeeper issue?

Vishal Kaith, the guardsman of the team from Kolkata, was reportedly substituted when he suffered a concussion mid-game. The incident happened on the hour mark when he collapsed after pouncing to make a save. ATKMB’s medical team immediately rushed towards the keeper to check the issue, which was fortunately cut short as he was up on his feet, thus brushing aside any injury rumours.

He was substituted by second goalie Arsh Shaikh, who made some brilliant saves to dent Odisha’s semifinal hopes.

Reputation at stake

ATK Mohun Bagan has been a consistent team in the knockouts of the ISL since its initiation, winning the cup thrice in the previous editions. So the reputations were at stake as they wanted to win in every possible way , thus keeping their dreams of a fourth title alive.

Buomos and Petratos had been a formidable and trustworthy duo of the “Mariners” that has made the boss Juan Ferrando worry a little less about the team’s attacking lineup, after releasing their star striker Roy Krishna before the starting of this season
