Mohamed Salah: Liverpool stalwart suffers injury in AFCON, Egyptian Football Association confirms

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah set to be sidelined due to injury suffered during AFCON as Egyptian football association has released an official statement regarding his update. He is slated to miss few of Egypt’s games in the remaining tournament, as said by the official board.

Mohamed Salah- the Egyptian Pharaoh

Mohamed Salah has been one of the integral members among the ranks of Premier League giants Liverpool. A striking metronome, whose exuberance dribbling skills and penetrating runs across the wings has been his métier since ages, Salah has recently etched his name among the history books after scoring 150 goals for the English heavyweights. He has always delivered to his name whenever he was sought after during any crisis for Klopp’s men, and has held his fort across the attacking sector since his playing days at Chelsea. Following his transfer to Roma, where he showcased his prowess and finesse in every game, he was called to play for the Reds in 2017, seven years ago, and since then, he did not had to look back.

His prolificity was a driving force when Liverpool emerged victorious in the finals of UEFA Champions League, and got his name epitaphed on the records while Jurgen Klopp’s men won the Premier League. He has been a pivot along the wings, and has been a part of important troikas in the history of the club, including Mane-Salah-Firmino, followed by Nunez-Salah-Diaz in recent times.

Injury at crucial juncture

With Salah’s heartbreaking injury news which has been confirmed by Egyptian Football Association, Liverpool might have a difficult time to proceed with. As the statement read, “The X-rays that Mohamed Salah, the captain of the Egyptian national team, underwent showed that he suffered a strain in the posterior muscle. He will miss the team’s next two matches in the African Nations, against Cape Verde and then the Round of 16 match in the event of qualification.”

The Reds are currently at the top of the table, closely followed by serial winners of the Premier League, Manchester City, mustering 45 points from 20 games. Some important games which are lined up for them include crucial matches against Chelsea and Arsenal, with Bournemouth on the start. Along with that, he would miss his nation’s last Group match against already qualified Cape Verde, and Egypt might have to toil hard to qualify for the next round, as they have currently mustered two points from two games.

As a result, if in worst case scenario, Salah misses few games for the Reds, Klopp might have to rethink his attacking front, with Nunez, Gakpo and Diaz likely to form the trident.
