MLC 2023 Final: Pooran’s 137* helps MI New York lift the maiden MLC Title after an impressive 7-wicket win over Seattle Ocras
On Monday, Nicholas Pooran led MI New York to a seven-wicket triumph over Seattle Orcas in the MLC 2023 Final in Dallas. Pooran’s superb batting helped MINY achieve 184/3 in 16 overs while chasing a target of 184 runs.
The MINY stand-in captain hit an unbeaten 137-run knock of 55 balls, including 10 fours and 13 sixes. Meanwhile, Imad Wasim and Wayne Parnell each took a wicket on a lousy day for SOR. The Seattle Orcas first set a goal of 184 runs. As SOR reached 183/9 in 20 overs, opener Quinton de Kock smashed 87 runs off 52 balls, including nine fours and four sixes. Meanwhile, Rashid Khan and Trent Boult took three wickets each for MINY.

The inaugural Major League Cricket (MLC) final, which took place on July 30, 2023, at Dallas’ Grand Prairie Stadium, was a show of cricketing prowess and strategic gameplay. MI New York defeated the Seattle Orcas, capturing the championship title in a dramatic contest.
Pooran’s innings started quickly, with him scoring a half-century off only 16 balls. He continued his onslaught, blasting towering maximums and becoming the tournament’s second batter to score a century. His undefeated 137 is the second-highest total in T20s by a skipper batting second.
Pooran stepped in and seized the game by the scruff of the neck after MI NY lost Steven Taylor in the first over and appeared to be in trouble.
After Kieron Pollard’s injury during the competition, the West Indies hitter took over as captain.
Despite the loss, the Seattle Orcas fought valiantly. Quinton de Kock led the squad in batting with 87 runs off 52 balls. However, the tally of 183 runs was insufficient against the influential MI New York, who won the match by seven wickets.
This has been a fantastic year for the MI franchise, as they have also been awarded the inaugural winners of the Women’s Premier League.
