Milwaukee Bucks emerge as front-runners to sign Goran Dragic after buyout from Chicago Bulls

The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly the front-runners to sign free agent point guard Goran Dragic. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bucks will meet with Dragic on Friday and are hoping to secure a commitment from him.

This isn’t the first time the Bucks have tried to sign Dragic. They made an attempt to acquire him after he received a buyout from the San Antonio Spurs last season, but he ultimately landed with the Brooklyn Nets.

Disappointing season with the Bulls

This season, Dragic has had a relatively disappointing run with the Chicago Bulls. He is currently averaging just 6.4 points per game, the lowest mark he’s posted since his rookie season.

He’s shooting 42.5 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from behind the arc. The Bulls, missing Lonzo Ball all season, are below .500 and struggling to stay in the play-in race.

The 36-year-old veteran is seeking his first championship and secured a buyout from the Bulls after he wasn’t dealt at the deadline. Since then, he has largely fallen out of the rotation.

Bucks’ half-court offense and need for a floor general

Despite their half-court offense, the Bucks have been among the NBA’s best teams for several years now. They have the NBA’s best record this season, but they only rank 19th in half-court points per play, according to Cleaning the Glass.

Dragic, a proven point guard and pick-and-roll operator, gives them a floor general for their bench to help keep the offense afloat when Giannis Antetokounmpo goes to the bench.

Bucks’ head coach to figure out how to balance guards

If Dragic does decide to head to Milwaukee, Bucks’ head coach Mike Budenholzer will have his work cut out for him. He will likely spend the remainder of the regular season figuring out how to balance all of those guards.

Dragic’s ball-handling would be a welcome addition to a roster that doesn’t have much of it, but considering how talented this roster is, there are going to be very capable players that get pushed out of the rotation.

As the Milwaukee Bucks set their sights on the playoffs, it seems that they are looking to strengthen their bench with the addition of Goran Dragic. The 36-year-old point guard’s experience and pick-and-roll skills could be a valuable asset to the team, especially during moments when Giannis Antetokounmpo is off the floor. However, with an already crowded roster, the challenge for Coach Budenholzer will be to find a way to balance Dragic’s playing time with that of the other talented guards on the team.
