Mike Hesson disappointed over not guiding RCB to its first IPL title

RCB’s former team director shared a heartfelt Instagram post after parting ways with the team

RCB on Friday announced that Andy Flower would be the new head coach of the men’s team. The announcement came after the Franchisee had parted ways with team director Mike Heson and coach Sanjay Bangar.

Flower’s appointment came on expected lines as the former LSG coach had not received an extension in the contract from the team and was expected to join a new team for IPL 2024. Mike Hesson on the other hand shared a heartfelt post on Instagram after officially leaving the post of RCB’s team director thanking the owners for giving him the opportunity to associate with the team.

Hesson Speaks

Although Hesson was also disappointed as RCB failed to win its maiden IPL title under his guidance. He also wished luck to the team and the new head coach Andy Flower.

In the words of Hesson “Although we were able to make good progress making 3 playoffs in the last 4 seasons we were not able to win the elusive trophy that I like so many players, support staff and the amazing fans so dearly wanted. Although disappointed to be leaving RCB I have some very fond memories working with great people both on and off the park,” he captioned a post.

Hesson further wrote “I would like to thank the management for the opportunity and wish RCB and it’s new coaching team the very best. Lastly to the amazing RCB fans, you are unwavering in your support and passion for the team and made me feel at home, for that I thank you.”

A Fresh Start

As things stand the exit of Mike Heson and Sanjay Bangar provides an opportunity for Andy Flower to continue the good work done by the duo and even go a step further and guide RCB to its maiden IPL title.

Reacting to his appointment Flower said “I am really proud to be joining RCB. I recognize the work put in by Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar, who are two coaches I respect, and I look forward to the challenge of taking RCB to new heights.”
