Messi makes history reaches 1000 goals contribution; PSG cruises Past Nice

Goals from Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos gave PSG a comfortable win against Nice for the Parisians to climb back to the top of the table with their lead extend to 6 points.

While it took some time, PSG’s threat began to loom in the opening exchanges. Lionel Messi did his best to drop into midfield and get his foot on the ball, but Nice stayed resolute.

The game away to Nice

The Parisians struck for the opener shortly before the half-hour mark, as Messi ghosted in between a number of opposition defenders to collect a cross and stab home from close range.

Nice clawed their way back into the game as the second half wore on, and began to cause the PSG rearguard a host of problems.

They came closest to leveling the score when Dante’s shot beat Gianluigi Donnarumma, but just barely stayed out after hitting the post. They were made to rue their missed chances, as Sergio Ramos headed home PSG’s second of the night from a corner with just 15 minutes remaining, driving the final nail into Nice’s coffin.

With the assist on Ramos’ goal, Messi registered his 1,000th club goal contribution in his career. The solid showing sees PSG bring a two-game losing run to an end and extends their lead atop the league back to six points.

Messi’s Milestone

Lionel Messi has now been directly involved in 1,000 goals during his club career. Messi scored the 701st club goal of his illustrious career as Paris Saint-Germain beat Nantes 4-2 on Saturday night.

The 35-year-old has also assisted 299 goals across Spain’s La Liga and France’s Ligue 1. Messi’s 1,000 goal contributions have come in 841 league appearances. He has therefore averaged 1.19 goals or assists per game throughout his club career.

Messi made his senior debut in 2003 and his best version came for Barcelona. Barcelona made him the superstar and now, he is playing for Paris Saint Germain. The 7-time Ballon d’Or winner has netted 701 goals including 299 assists in 841 matches.

The former Barca star is also the first player in the modern era to achieve this feat. His record will be safe for now as his rival Cristiano Ronaldo takes the second spot with 912 goal involvements. Ronaldo is also in top form for Al Nassr since his arrival in Saudi Arabia in the winter of 2023. Messi has also scored 18 goals and provided 17 assists for PSG this season across all competitions.
