Medvedev’s 19-match Winning Streak Ends in BNP Paribas Open Final

Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev suffered a crushing defeat at the BNP Paribas Open final on Sunday, snapping his 19-match win streak. The 5th seed was no match for Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, who dominated the game with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Medvedev, however, remained positive and focused on his future games.

Medvedev had been hoping to tie his career-long win streak of 20 matches at the tournament, and was visibly disappointed when he fell one match short. “Damn, one away from my record. That’s actually disappointing,” he said.

The fifth ATP Masters 1000 title remains elusive

Apart from the missed streak opportunity, the biggest disappointment for Medvedev was losing the chance to win his fifth ATP Masters 1000 title. Medvedev has been in excellent form recently, having won three straight titles in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai, but the BNP Paribas Open title will have to wait.

Reflecting on the game

Medvedev admitted that he didn’t play his best game and was unsure of the reasons behind his poor performance. “Maybe it was his ball. Maybe it was the wind. It was pretty windy today, and for him it was easier to go through this wind, and that’s normal. That’s what’s easier to do for him,” he said. Medvedev, however, took the loss in stride, and remained focused on his next game.

Despite the loss, Medvedev remains determined to build a new streak of victories. “Really disappointed that it ended, but a lot of confidence from this streak. Because last year, that’s what I was missing, these streaks. I was doing sometimes finals, semis in Cincinnati, kind of playing good but not playing well enough in the semis. I managed to win 19 matches in a row. I’m proud of it, and now it’s time to try to build a new streak. There is no other way in tennis,” he said.

Looking ahead to Miami

Medvedev is now setting his sights on the Miami Open, and is eager to prove himself once again. “I see only good things, and looking forward to Miami, for sure,” he said.

Medvedev may have lost the BNP Paribas Open final, but his incredible 19-match win streak and recent titles prove that he is a force to be reckoned with in the tennis world. His determination and positive attitude ensure that he will continue to be a top contender in future tournaments.
