Martin Odegaard signs new contract with Arsenal until 2028

Martin Odegaard signs a new five-year contract with Arsenal that will keep him at the club until 2028. The Norwegian was in the final two years of his last contract, but he has now signed a new deal.

Furthermore, along with being the captain of Arsenal, he is also the most highest paid player in such a short time. Several clubs were lining up a move for the midfielder, but Arsenal acted quickly and offered him a long-term contract.

Odegaard arrived from Real Madrid for €35million plus add-ons in August 2021, and in less than a year, he was named the captain of Arsenal. He has 25 goals in 92 appearances since moving to Arsenal permanently.

He also spent a season on loan at the Emirates. The 24-year-old was also named in the PFA team of the year for the 2022/23 season.

After renewing the likes of William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale and Gabriel Martinelli, Odegaard becomes the latest key player to extend his contract with the Gunners.

“It was an easy decision for me. As I said many times, I felt connected and I felt at home here since the first day,” Odegaard said upon the announcement.

“And also I was moving around a lot and struggling to really settle down, so I felt like I needed a place to come and settle down and to kind of find a home.

“That’s what I did here and I felt it from the first day, so it was easy for me to commit. I’m also excited for what we’re doing now and for the future, so I’m really happy.”

Last season, Odegaard scored 15 goals and provided seven assists, which helped Arsenal to challenge for the Premier League title. Moreover, he has already scored three goals in all competitions this season.

This is a huge boost for Arsenal before their home game against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
