Manchester United to impose ‘Ronaldo rule’ to control wage bill and jealousy among players

According to widespread reports in the English media, Manchester United have unanimously decided to introduce a ‘Ronaldo rule’ to ensure that nobody in the team is paid significantly more than their team-mates and hence jealousy doesn’t arrive within the squad.

Under this new rule in order to set everything straight, United players’ salaries will be capped at £200,000 pounds a week or around 13 Million Euros a year. And this applies to players who are still on contracts which is more than the allotted figure and hence to solve that situation, those players would be offered a new contract.

The decision came into existence after club legend Cristiano Ronaldo who was reportedly earning around an astronomical amount £500,000 a week. He terminated his contract with the club recently after causing controversy behind the scenes due to an interview with Piers Morgan which was released just before the World Cup.

Erik Ten Hag revolutionizing Man United

Hence after this saga, the current chief executive Richard Arnold, director of football John Murtough and manager Erik ten Hag wanted to avoid such a contrast that could harm the team’s result only due to a money problem.

David De Gea who currently earns about £375,000 a week, and his contract will expire at the end of the season, but now he will have to accept this new rule and take a wage cut in order to remain at the club. The Red Devils’ most recent annual wage bill was at an astonishing amount which was around £228m and this is the biggest in the Premier League.

But now that this rule has been imposed, it would surely help them not only at a financial level but also at a sporting level cause it would enable much more unity in the roster.
