Man United knocked out of the Champions League after 1-0 defeat to Bayern

Manchester United were knocked out of the Champions League after Bayern Munich handed them a 1-0 defeat.

The Red Devils finished at the bottom of Group A, earning just four points. This was also one of their worst campaigns ever in the Champions League.

Furthermore, this is only the fourth time an English club has finished at the bottom of their Champions League group. The last time Manchester United finished bottom of their Champions League group was back in 2005/2006 season.

With this loss against the Bavarians, United have now suffered a defeat in 12 out of their opening 24 games of the season. United have also been knocked out of the Carabao Cup and currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League table.

Thomas Tuchel’s men scored just one goal in the 70th minute, as Kingsley Coman’s strike was enough to send Manchester United into misery again.

In the other game, Copenhagen defeated Galatasaray 1-0 and secured the second spot in Group A. Whereas Galatasaray will play in the Europa League.

This defeat will surely put more pressure on manager Erik ten Hag, who has been criticised since the start of this campaign.

“We didn’t lose the campaign today. We had some good performances and also we made mistakes and individual errors from players,” Ten Hag said.

“Today the performance was good, we didn’t deserve to lose but we lost the game. The players gave everything.”

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw suffer injuries against Bayern

The Dutchman also pointed out the difficulties his team is facing, stating, “We are losing players and losing players who are very decisive. In many games, it was the case in this campaign that we didn’t have players available. That is a reason but not an excuse.

To make matters worse, the Red Devils suffered a major injury blow, as both, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw came off injured against Bayern.

Erik ten Hag’s men have tough fixtures as they face Liverpool, West Ham and Aston Villa in their next three games. To turn their season around in the Premier League positive results will be needed in their games.
