During the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Asia Regional Qualifier B contest, Malaysian bowler Syazrul Idrus made history by taking the most wickets in T20I. In the game’s shorter version, Syazrul Idrus made history by becoming the first bowler to take seven wickets in a single match in international cricket.
On July 26, Malaysia defeated China by an eight-wicket margin in the first game of the series. In 11.2 overs, the Malaysian bowlers bowled out the opponents for just 23 runs. None of the other batters managed to score more than five runs, with Wei Guolei leading the way with seven.

At Bayuemas Oval, Syazrul Idrus reached the milestone during the tournament’s opening game against China. The right-arm bowler took seven wickets as he swept down China’s batting order. In his four required overs, the 32-year-old pacer let up just eight runs, including one debut over.
Men’s T20I bowlers have taken six wickets apiece twelve times, but no one has ever taken seven wickets in a single game before. India’s Deepak Chahar and Yuzvendra Chahal, Australia’s Ashton Agar, and Sri Lanka’s Ajantha Mendis are among those who secured six-wicket hauls.

Coming back to the game
Malaysia completed the run chase with eight wickets remaining, scoring 24 runs in five overs. Since they are hosting the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies next year, the home team got off to a strong start in the qualifying competition.
Teams must qualify for the event in order to guarantee their place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The competition’s victor will go on to the Asia Regional Final, which will be held in Nepal in November. In 2024, the top two teams will be invited to compete in the prestigious 20-over showcase tournament.
