During the World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, a security breach occurred when an individual, clad in a white tee and red shorts, approached Virat Kohli in an attempt to hug him before being intercepted by security authorities on Sunday.
The incident unfolded in the 14th over of India’s innings. The invader, whose identity remained unconfirmed at the time of reporting, crossed the fence and made a beeline for Kohli. Notably, the individual wore the Palestine flag as a mask and conveyed a clear message on his shirt that read, ‘Stop Bombing Palestine.’
In the initial moments, the intruder patted Kohli on the back and attempted to embrace the Indian batter. However, security personnel swiftly intervened, ensuring his removal from the scene.

This isn’t the first instance of a pitch invasion in the current tournament. In a league game last month at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, social media influencer and recurring pitch invader Daniel Jarvis, known as Jarvo, was apprehended by security authorities during the India versus Australia match. Jarvis had entered the ground wearing India colors before the game started and was escorted out by security. Subsequently, the ICC banned him from attending further matches in the World Cup, and he was later deported.
This recent incident raises concerns about the security protocols in place, particularly regarding how the invader managed to access the VIP area and breach multiple layers of security to enter the playing field. The security lapse during a high-profile event like the World Cup final underscores the need for a thorough review and reinforcement of security measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
