Luton Town 1-1 Liverpool: Luis Diaz strike helps Reds salvage a point at Kenilworth Road, becomes emotional in celebration, lifts shirt saying “Freedom for Father”

In latest football news, Liverpool might have played one of their unexpected games at Kenilworth Road, snatching a solitary point against minnows Luton, but their equalizer was an embodiment of emotional and tense situation. The goal was scored by Colombian Luis Suarez, who is going through one of the most unceremonious emotional tantrums as his parents were kidnapped few days before by a group, although his mother has been freed from their shackles, his father still remains with them, and is expected to be freed in the coming days.

Liverpool and Luton play out a scintillating stalemate

Luton Town has been one of the biggest surprises this season. Coming from Championship in the beginning of the season, the Hatters have snatched six points from their stipulated 11 games, and are sitting just over the relegation zone. They had defeated Everton in one of their historical games, and were almost on the brink of defeating Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, before Luis Diaz came up with an absolute beauty on the dying minutes to snatch an away point. The Reds had arrived at Kenilworth in quest of their fifth successive victory in all competitions, but would go back with several doubts at the back of their mind owing to their lackluster performance throughout the game.

The former Premier League and Champions League champions have had plenty shots on target, 24 to be exact, but could only place it between the sticks on six occasions, and were clearly lacking that missing piece in the puzzle, which was not solved until Harvey Elliott was introduced on the field. The youngster, with his varying skills and exuberant playing was instrumental in assisting the equalizer, saving Liverpool’s blushes in the dying minutes.

Diogo Jota did get an early chance to draw the first blood, but his blatant effort was saved by the spirited custodian of the Hatters, Kaminski. Darwin Nunez enjoyed a mediocre night at Kenilworth, hitting three shots on target out of nine, and Gakpo squandered an opportunity wide.

Along with their gameplay, Klopp would also be concerned about how their opponents were successful in creating inroads into the Liverpool defense, with Trent faltering in containing Republic of Ireland winger Ogbene, as he was instrumental in setting up several attacks by linking up with Kabore, before seeing their attempt to goal saved by onrushing Alisson.

With an expected outcome in favor for Luton, it was Manchester United academy product Tahith Chong who drew the first blood against the mighty Reds, accumulating forces in attack which started on from a Liverpool corner, before teeing off the first goal past Alisson.

Emotional Luis Diaz scores leveler

With ten minutes of regulation time remaining on the clock to salvage some pride for the Reds, Klopp was seen looking for options to score the leveler, exploring several stars to restore parity. He looked up to Luis Diaz, the Columbian star who is going through an unprecedented family turmoil with his parents being kidnapped, and was right to do so. The Latin American star, whose brilliant game play and ability to score whopping goals was deployed by Klopp, and he delivered to that promise, when Harvey Elliott’s lobbed ball across the defense fell before Diaz, as the Columbian slotted past the shot to secure a point, sparking wild celebrations in front of the travelling Liverpool fans.

He lifted his shirt in a rather muted celebration, with his inners demanding release of his father from the kidnappers, written “freedom for papa”. Later, he released a statement on social media to ask the kidnappers to release his father “immediately”.

With this draw, Liverpool overtook Arsenal to be on the third position, as Luton sprung out of relegation zone to stay in safe zone.
