Luis Suarez: Former FC Barcelona and Liverpool stalwart opens up about club retirement frustration with Lionel Messi

Inter Miami player Luis Suarez has opened up about his frustration to not retire with Lionel Messi at their favorite club, FC Barcelona. The Uruguayan star, called ‘El Pistolero’, owing to his exceptional prolificity and goal-scoring prowess, has recently joined MLS outfit Inter Miami, where, coincidentally, he is reunited with his best friend Lionel Messi, and other Catalan mates in the form of Busquets and Alba, thus bringing back memories of old Barcelona.

Luis Suarez- the striking metronome

Luis Suarez has always been considered to be a top-notch striker, as his exuberance and monstrous ability to score out-worldly goals had grabbed the attention of fans and critics likewise. After coming from the streets of Uruguay, Suarez had plied his trade for several top clubs like Ajax and Liverpool, where he gained utmost popularity and showcased to the world his caliber. After joining FC Barcelona, he widened his horizon, thus joining hands with two of the greatest football players in the Catalan ranks, Neymar and Lionel Messi, thus leading to the formation of the famous troika of M-S-N, comprising Messi-Suarez-Neymar. With the Catalans, Suarez’s meteoric rise earned widespread attention, as he won the Golden Boot trophy in an era which was basked with the glory of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

A historic rendezvous

After Suarez’s historic stint at FC Barcelona, he went on to play for several other heavyweights as Atletico Madrid, where he led the Rojiblancos to a legendary La Liga triumph, followed by plying his trade at Brazilian and Uruguayan greats Gremio and Nacional. But, it seems that 2024 would be a year for FC Barcelona fans to reminisce their favorite memories, as Suarez has joined hands with David Beckham-owned side Inter Miami, thus he would be seen playing with his old mates in Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. The trio has already weaved their magic web last year, leading Inter Miami to a historic Leagues Cup triumph. And, now with Suarez’s addition, Inter Miami look lethal with this legendary quartet among their ranks.

He was heard saying about his retirement plans at FC Barcelona with Lionel Messi, as per reports by Marca, “I didn’t imagine we would be together again as I thought Leo would end his career at Barca. In 2019 we imagined winning everything at Barcelona and dreamed of retiring there. First I left, and then everyone left after me.”

Inter Miami are currently on their off-season schedule, with players arriving on practice sessions, as their season starts on 21st February against Real Salt Lake. With a pre-season tour scheduled in Saudi Arabia, which involves games against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr, which is also a throwback to the legendary duel between Messi and Ronaldo, followed by Neymar’s Al Hilal, Inter Miami would be well prepared to start their season with a bang, having secured the services of several top players this season, which includes legendary striker Luis Suarez too.
