Diaz’s heroics saves Colombian blushes, emotions erupt

Things were not going the way it was supposed to go for the Colombians. In their home ground, they were trailing 0-1 against Brazil, as the Selecao were dancing their way through the Colombian defense, as Luis Diaz and Co. were looking for the unsolicited answers to the waves of Brazilian attacks. With the score in Brazil’s favor at half-time, it was made out that Selecao might register a comfortable away victory, although their star from Real Madrid, Vinicius was subbed off during the starting minutes.

It was during that time when Luis Diaz decided to go center-stage, to score two goals within last fifteen minutes to secure a remarkable comeback against one of the greatest sides in world football. It was a cathartic evening for Diaz, who has made a strong comeback this season with Liverpool.

Although he was playing a string of shots at Brazil goal, his shots were continuously thwarted away by his Liverpool teammate Alisson, who stood in goal instead of Ederson. Defensive frailties from the Brazilian guards made Diaz score two fine headers within five minutes, on 75th and 79th minute, thus ensuring a remarkable remontada in Estadio Metropolitano.

After scoring the winner, Diaz burst into tears and dedicated his goal to his father, who was seen emotionally celebrating with others in stands. Brazil have lost two consecutive World Cup qualifiers and are currently on an unexpected winless streak of three games, and have dropped to fifth place on the standings, and is scheduled to take on the World Champions Argentina in their next game, who, on the other hand, lost to Uruguay 0-2 at their home turf too.

A rare loss for both of South America’s greats!
