LIV VS ARS: Jurgen Klopp’s Reaction After The Draw and Statement Issued On Incident Involving Andy Robertson And Assistant Referee

During a thriller at Anfield, Liverpool equalized after being two goals down to hold title-chasing Arsenal making it a 2-2 draw on Sunday.

If it was not for a penalty miss and two stunning Aaron Ramsdale saves, Liverpool could have taken all three points from the league leaders Arsenal.

However, the single point earned does not do Liverpool much good in their efforts to get into the Premier League top 4 and get a place in the Champions league. The result adds significance to Arsenal’s title-defining clash with City on April 26, as Pep Guardiola’s side have a game in hand on the league leaders.

The match produced plenty of fallout in the Premier League which included a missed penalty by Salah and an alleged elbow from an assistant referee to Andrew Robertson.

Arsenal Took Early Lead But Liverpool Fought Back

Arsenal had not won at Anfield since September 2012 — a game which manager Mikel Arteta played in for the London side — but they started strong and opened the scoring on eight minutes through Martinelli. The Premier League leaders continued to push and looked to have put their Anfield curse firmly behind them as Jesus doubled their lead on 28 minutes.

Later on, Diogo Jota’s cross was deflected by Jordan Henderson into the path of Salah, who swept home and tipped the momentum of the game in the favour of Jurgen Klopp’s side just before half-time.

Liverpool started the second half on the front foot and were handed a golden chance penalty to level the score on 52 minutes but Salah, however, fired the shot wide.

Klopp’s side continued to push and Firmino headed home Alexander-Arnold’s floated cross to dent Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes around the final minutes of the game.

Klopp’s Say After The Game

There were mixed feelings for Jurgen Klopp in his post-match interview. Like many times this season, Klopp was annoyed with Liverpool’s shoddy defending, yet was still proud of their character and how they fought back.

Klopp said, “We had moments and chances where we didn’t finish the situations off, slightly typical. They’re flying so they score with their first chance. The goal we scored helped massively. At half-time it wasn’t over. It was a sensational atmosphere. A good moment to get the equalizer.”

He added, “All of a sudden, we were in charge of a wild game. We deserved at least a point. If Ibou [Konate] uses his head [for a late chance] it’s a goal. Maybe he slipped. He had a chance, it was just there.”

Incident With Andrew Robertson and The Referee

The incident has caused a stir among fans and the Premier League where allegedly, Andy Robertson was on the receiving end of an elbow from assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis in a crazy end to the first half.

Upon the incident, the refereeing body PGMOL released a statement which confirmed that they are aware of the incident and will investigate it further.

A statement from the organization issued read that “PGMOL is aware of an incident involving assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis and Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson at half-time during the Liverpool v Arsenal fixture at Anfield. We will review the matter in full once the game has concluded.”
