Lionel Messi wins his first-ever trophy with Inter Miami as they defeat Nashville in the penalty shootout (10-9). Messi’s brilliant form continues as he scored in the 23rd minute and also converted his penalty in shootouts.
Moreover, this was his 10th goal in seven matches. He received the ball just outside the penalty box and unleashed a brilliant shot which flew into the top corner. The Nashville goalkeeper Elliot Panicco could only watch as the ball went into the top corner.

The Nashville crowd booed the 36-year-old eveytime he touched the ball. But, the stadium erupted when the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner who led Argentina to the World Cup crown last year scored.

Furthermore, Messi could have scored his second goal of the night, but his shot hit the post in the 71st minute. So, both teams played a 1-1 draw in the regulation time.
Miami striker Leonardo Campana had a chance to win the game in the last play in regulation. Busquet’s saw his run and sent a long ball, but his sliding shot on an open goal hit the post.

Lionel Messi has now also become the most decorated footballer of all time. After winning the Leagues Cup with Inter Miami, he now has a total of 44 career trophies with club and country. He was tied with former Barcelona teammate Dani Alves on 43 trophies.
The Argentine was also awarded the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament award after scoring ten goals across seven matches for the Herons. Miami have earned their first-ever trophy as a club, and it is clear that the signing of Messi has completely changed their fate.
Messi and Inter Miami will take on FC Cincinnati Wednesday in the semifinals of the 2023 U.S. Open Cup.
