Lionel Messi ‘slams’ PSG after they didn’t give him recognition for winning the World Cup

Lionel Messi slams his former club PSG after they didn’t give him recognition for winning the World Cup last year against France.

Messi won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with Argentina last year, but he believes that he was not treated fairly compared to his other 25 teammates. Moreover, fans booed him and Neymar at the latter stages of the season after PSG failed to win the Champions League.

Nevertheless, he left PSG this summer to join MLS club Inter Miami, and his decision to leave them indicates that he was unhappy in Paris.

He has so far scored 11 goals in as many appearances for Inter Miami across all competitions. Moreover, the 36-year-old played a key role in guiding Inter Miami to their maiden Leagues Cup triumph last month.

Lionel Messi hits out at PSG and talks about 2026 World Cup

In an interview with Olga TV, Messi revealed: “It is understandable as I was in the country against which we had won in the final and prevented them from winning the World Cup again. I was the only player on the entire Argentina team that his club did not recognise, but that’s okay.”

The 36-year-old already knew that after winning the World Cup against France his return to Paris will be awkward. However, he did not expect his club to not recognize about the result.

So, this may have bothered Messi, and overall it may have played a big role in his decision to leave.

When he was asked whether he will play in the next World Cup, Messi said: “I don’t know if I’ll arrive, I already said it. I’m not thinking about it yet because it’s far away.

“After the Copa America we will see, it depends on how I feel. Years have passed, and we have to see how I feel. Maybe in the league, the pace of the games is different. I will see the day by day as I find myself. There are still 3 years to go.”
