Lionel Messi refused to swap shirts with a New York City FC player after their 2-1 defeat to the club-friendly match.
The 36-year-old World Cup winner has impressed the MLS by his stunning performances this season. Moreover, he has also helped them to win their first ever title in Leagues Cup.
Messi joined Inter Miami this summer after a move to Barcelona did not happen. He has signed a contract with the Herons until December 2025.
In a tribute game to celebrate Messi’s record-extending eighth Ballon d’Or, Inter Miami faced New York City FC. The friendly was organized by MLS to provide Messi with a proper celebration with the fans.
However, despite starting the likes of Messi, Busquets, and Jordi Alba, Inter Miami lost the game 2-1 against them.

However, Messi abruptly refuses the player’s request and, with a slight gesture, nods his head to disapprove of the wish of his rival player.

Messi will return to competitive action on Friday when the Albiceleste take on Uruguay at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires. However, all eyes are on the marquee match against Brazil on November 21 at the Maracana, where the two rivals will reignite their rivalry.
