Lionel Messi can rejoin Barcelona for the second half of 2023/24 season

Lionel Messi can rejoin FC Barcelona in January transfer window if Inter Miami fail to qualify for the MLS play-offs.

After leaving PSG this summer, Messi was destined to return to Barcelona, but the club finances were again a concern for his move. So, he decided to join MLS club Inter Miami.

The 36-year-old has helped Inter Miami to win their first-ever trophy in Leagues Cup. But, his recent injury has come at the worst possible time, and he may not be able to help the club reach the play-off this season.

The Herons are currently five points off the top-nine place with only three games left to play, meaning they need a large points swing to go in their favour.

Lionel Messi linked with a Barcelona return on loan in January

The MLS regular season ends on October 21, and if they miss out on playoffs, then Messi’s season would be over. So, according to Sport, if this happens, there is a possibility that he can join the Catalan giants on loan in January.

Moreover, years ago, Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham took advantage of the break with LA Galaxy to go to Milan. Thierry Henry also did the same thing by joining Arsenal.

Nevertheless, no talks have taken place between the two clubs, but Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas recently confirmed that Messi will get an opportunity to say goodbye to Barca fans.
