Lionel Messi becomes the most decorated footballer of all time with 44 trophies
Lionel Messi is now the most decorated footballer of all time after winning his 44th trophy for club and country. The Argentine starred for Inter Miami as they beat Nashville FC to win the Leagues Cup for the first time.
Moreover, this was Messi’s first trophy in the MLS despite only joining a month ago. He has now surpassed his former Barcelona teammate Dani Alves to become the only player at the top with the most trophies in football.
Inter Miami won the inaugural Leagues Cup after an 11-round penalty shootout following a 1-1 regulation draw against Nashville.
The 36-year-old was also awarded the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament award after scoring 10 goals across seven matches for the Herons. Miami have earned their first-ever trophy as a club and signing Messi has completely changed their fate.
With 12 games in the regular season left, the Herons sit 12 points out. Messi will have to maintain his form if they want a shot at the playoffs.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has now accumulated 44 trophies over the span of his career, which began in 2004. Moreover, among the major trophies he has won include the 2022 World Cup, the 2021 Copa America and the four Champions League trophies he won with Barcelona.
