Leipzig knock Lacksture Borussia Dortmund of the German Cup by 2-0

German cup holders RB Leipzig have knocked Borussia Dortmund out of the German cup and progressed into the next stage of the cup. Goals were scored by Timo Werner in the 22nd minute and Jano Orban in the 90th added minute to hand a sloppy Loss for the Yellow side.

Leipzig dominates Dortmund in DFB Pokal Quarterfinals

RB Leipzig had total control of the game at home. Dani Olmo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Konrad Laimer were impressed throughout the night and quick thinking from Kobel was the only thing keeping things level. Yet despite the early scares, Dortmund failed to click into gear throughout the match and it kept the door open for Leipzig to strike.

The breakthrough arrived when Mohamed Simakan’s blistering run beat Mats Hummels, and he teed up Timo Werner, who redirected his fifth goal of the competition home for 1-0.

Coming out into the second half it remained a one-goal game though last-ditch defending from Dortmund prevented the hosts from piling on the goals with Werner waiting too long on a brilliant chance for 2-0.

Jude Bellingham’s Frustration

Substitute Jude Bellingham was visibly frustrated with his side, but couldn’t inspire a comeback as Donyell Malen and Youssoufa Moukoko also fell short in the attacking third.

Late on the visitors almost equalized in the dying seconds and sent everyone forward, Leipzig hit on the counter and Willi Orbán made things 2-0 after putting the ball into an empty net.

To sum up this match, the hosts had 20 shots to two from the visitors, and nine corners to one. It means Borrusia Dortmund followed Bayern Munich out the door at the quarter-final stage.

Eintracht Frankfurt, Freiburg and VfB Stuttgart round out the semi-finalists with the draw on Sunday.
