Lautaro Martinez scores 4 goals after coming off the bench against Salernitana

Lautaro Martinez came off the bench to score all four goals for Inter as they hammered Salernitana to return to the top of Serie A.

Whereas city rivals AC Milan won 2-0 against Lazio earlier on Saturday. Both teams have 18 points, but Inter have a better goal difference compared to Milan.

The Nerazzurri bounced back after they suffered their first loss of the season in the midweek clash against Sassuolo.

Salernitana kept Inter at bay for the first hour but fell apart after Lautaro Martinez came on nine minutes after half-time.

The Argentina striker dinked Marcus Thuram’s superb ball over Salernitana goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa to break the deadlock just past the hour.

Mateusz Legowski did score the equaliser for the hosts but it was ruled for offside before Martinez drilled in his second from a cross from Nicolo Barella.

Lautaro completed his hat-trick in the 85th minute from the penalty spot after Thuram was brought to the ground. He added his fourth with a first-time finish from Carlos Augusto’s pass.

Furthermore, after scoring four goals, Martinez now tops the Serie A scoring charts with nine goals.

“I’m happy because I helped the team, it’s all that counts. It was important to win after all the criticism aimed at us after our defeat on Wednesday,” said Martinez.

“I’m not thinking about the title for top scorer, I just want to help the team.”

The Nerazzurri have regained their confidence and will now face Benfica at San Siro in the Champions League.
