Lamine Yamal will leave Spain squad to return to Barcelona

16-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal will return to Barcelona from Spain squad after suffering a minor injury last weekend against Granada.

The La Masia youngster was called for Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 Qualifiers against Scotland and Norway over the coming days.

Yamal has been in the spotlight since the start of the season. The Spaniard recently became youngest ever goal scorer for Spain, beating Gavi’s record. Furthermore, he signed a new contract until 2026 with Barcelona with a €1 Billion release clause.

In a difficult away game against Granada, where Barcelona were 2-0 down, the 16-year-old winger created history just before half-time, as he scored a goal to become the youngest player ever to score in La Liga history.

Despite performing well for his club and country, the youngster has now suffered a setback as he suffered a left hip flexor injury against Granada.

Lamine Yamal leaves Spain squad after suffering an injury

Even after suffering an injury, Spain’s national team called Yamal and wanted to evaluate his injury by their medical staff.

According to reports, the RFEF wanted Yamal to play at least one match during this International Break to reach 3 matches with Spain and end his chances of playing for Morocco forever.

So, Yamal linked up with the rest of the squad last night even though he was still feeling some discomfort from his injury.

Tests were carried out yesterday, and Spain has now confirmed that Yamal will be leaving the national team.

They released a statement: “The international Lamine Yamal leaves the Spanish national team camp after being evaluated by the medical services of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

“It was determined that he will not be able to participate in the next two qualifiers for Euro 2024, which will pit Spain against Scotland in Seville and Norway in Oslo.”

Yamal will take at least 10 days to recover from his injury, but he will be ready to face Athletic Club after the international break.
